Free Thai song of the week - 01
In a new feature for klongofconsciousness.com, I’ll be bringing you a free Thai song every Friday for your listening pleasure. Call it lazy blogging, but I call it sharing decent Thai music with the world (plus I like to go out on Friday nights).
So what better place to start than with one of the most influential Thai bands of all time. They’ve been around for more than fifteen years, opened for Radiohead and sold over 2 million albums. Who am I talking about? Yes, it is of course the mighty Modern Dog.

If your knowledge of Thai music is based purely on slushy pop songs and bad rip-offs by Acadamy Fantasia contestants, then Modern Dog could be just the band you’re looking for.
Lead singer Thanachai ‘Pod’ UjinPod’s lyrics (pictured above, right) are in Thai, but the band still offers a more international style and they’re not scared to mix in some electronic experimentation with the guitar-driven choruses that Thai people up and down the country know the words to inside out.

With 8 albums and lots of personal favourite tracks, it’s hard for me to choose just one song but in the end I’ve gone with the upbeat ‘Ter Hai Maa’, which roughly translates as ‘You can come’. To listen to the song, just click on the speaker icon above.
Modern Dog will also be playing tomorrow night (Feb 9th) from 10-11pm at the Tiger Translate music festival at Suan Lum Night Market in Bangkok.
Enjoy the music and be sure to tune in every Friday for a new Thai song!
