Saturday Seiko are back!

One of my favourite Thai bands, Saturday Seiko are finally back with a new-look lineup and new album, entitled Super Sunday.

Saturday Seiko

After their self-titled debut album in 2002, and successful 2005 follow-up Goodnight Friday, two new guitarists have been brought in, but lead singer and dek naew idol, ‘Koy’ (pictured below on stage at Central World), continues to front the band with her quirky dress-sense, strong vocals and introspective lyrics.

At first the album does feel like it might be doomed to mainstream obscurity, but after a few listenings the unique rock and electronic influences that characterise the band begin to reveal themselves.

Between guitar-driven tracks such as ‘157 bpm‘, the catchy strings of ‘Dtang Dtua’ (Dress Up) and more mellow offerings like ‘Ror Mai’, you definitely get a sense that Saturday Seiko are still a band with the creative talent and production skills to outwit and outclass the army of ubiquitious GMM Grammy artists that still monopolize Thailand’s radio and TV stations.

I vaguely know about the band, but I have never heard their music. They are sort of interesting. I am watching the MV of the song called 157 bpm. What I can say is that they have their own style.

Saturday Seiko have been my favourite Thai band for a long time. They are very imaginative and original and their style of music is much more exciting than most ‘radio friendly’ bands. Check them out!!!

I hope they start playing live a lot more, cause I’ve never had the chance to see them.
